WUFT - TV is a public broadcasting station based at the University of Florida in Gainesville, producing local news and public media content for North Central Florida.
I serve as a Student Director for WUFT- TV’s Friday midday broadcast, where I program the show in AP ENPS using the station’s automation system. This includes organizing segments such as headlines, weather, Noticias for Spanish-speaking audiences, sports, and the teaser for First at Five, which airs later that day on the same channel.
In addition to programming, I also step in as a Technical Director and direct the show through Oracle software. In this role, I help maintain communication between producers and anchors, making sure everyone stays aligned throughout the live broadcast.
Although my main interest is in film production, my experience as a Student Director at a broadcasting station has strengthened my problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills in a live production setting. The role requires me to oversee the show in real time, respond quickly to on-air issues, and make adjustments with minimal disruption to the broadcast.
